Can I just say this?
I was watching “Harry Potter:Into the Pensieve” and I realized, like REALLY realized that
The Harry Potter books are the best books of our generation. (Something to be proud of, no doubt.) But beyond that, as movies (a medium of a totally different kind — I’m one of those that goes to see movies inspired by books with a TOTALLY open mind — I liked “Eragon” both book and movie. Blasphemy, I know.) the Harry Potter series is spectacular.
Yes, they change lines.
Yes, they cut out scenes.
Yes, they add really beautiful Harry/Hermione dancing scenes that shouldn’t be beautiful because I love R/Hr, H/G.
But all in all. Think about it. Everything is done beautifully. The casting. Can I just? Most books-turned-movies, there’s that ONE character that gets cast and you’re like “wtf…seriously? who’s smoking crack and why aren’t they sharing?” Even if that actor(ress) ends up impressing you, there was still that doubt. But with Harry Potter, I have not come across one character that wasn’t either exactly how I pictured them in the books or totally filled the role and replaced my original thoughts of the character’s physical appearance.
The handling of the plot lines as well. It’s directed so that non-book readers will understand what’s going on and book-readers can fill in the stuff left out.
It’s to the point now that I can read a Harry Potter book and even if there’s a scene that wasn’t filmed, I can PICTURE the actors acting it out.
Brilliance.
Just saying.
